Training for Health Professionals

Why help people stop smoking?

Smoking is the leading cause of preventable death and disease in the UK and exposure to secondhand smoke has been shown to cause ill-health including lung cancer and heart disease in adult non-smokers and increased risk of respiratory problems and cot death in babies.

Stop smoking advice and support is a life-saving intervention!

What training does Quit4Life offer and who is it for?

In addition to training our own specialist advisers, Quit4Life delivers training to a range of health professionals.  For example, dental hygienists could benefit from Level 1 training to help them encourage patients to access Quit4Life support. Or a pharmacy practice that already offers stop smoking appointments may wish to have an additional member of staff Level 2 trained.

This is the training we currently offer:

Very Brief Advice Training: Suitable for any professionals working with smokers, this is delivered in a 15-20 minute session within your workplace. It aims to equip staff with the confidence to ask a person about smoking and how to refer smokers for support to stop. This opportunistic intervention can be a very effective trigger to quit and it only takes thirty seconds to do. Contact Glenis Clifford to arrange.

Level 1, Brief Intervention Training is an accredited 1-2 hour course aimed at helping health professionals to speak with confidence to their clients/patients about smoking and to refer them to Quit4Life for help to quit. The training can be tailored to suit any speciality. Contact Glenis Clifford for further details.

Level 2Smoking Cessation Training (5 modules) is designed specifically for health professionals who can commit to delivering complete stop smoking programmes within their current role.  Please see further details of Level 2 training, including eligibility, venues, dates and how to book.

The Refresher module is to be undertaken by Level 2-trained advisers every 12 months.
