Quit smoking associated products

There is a wide range of different treatments available that can double your chances of quitting. Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) replaces about a third of the nicotine gained from smoking cigarettes, but without the harmful chemicals such as carbon monoxide or tar. It can help to reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms, but it is not a miracle cure or a replacement of the need for willpower. There are also two prescription drug therapies available - Champix and Zyban.

The products below are all available on prescription, but the choices can be confusing. We recommend that you talk to us about the options available, and the best way to do this is to attend one of our FREE quit smoking sessions. To find out more about a session near you, and how you can receive a FREE eight week supply of NRT, click here.

champix

Champix

Champix is a tablet that you take for up to 12 weeks, and you set yourself a quit date during week one or two of taking the tablet. It works by reducing your craving for a cigarette and by reducing the effects you feel if you do have a cigarette.

Pills

Lozenges

Lozenges are placed in the side of your mouth which allows nicotine to be absorbed into your body.

gum

Gum

Gum allows nicotine to be absorbed through the inside of your mouth. It is important that you “chew-rest-chew” the gum because any nicotine swallowed is wasted.

micro-tab

Micro-tab

Micro-tab is a tablet which slowly dissolves under your tongue and allows nicotine to be absorbed into your body through the inside of your mouth, because any nicotine swallowed is wasted.

patch

Patches are like large sticking plasters that provide nicotine through the skin all the time unlike the oral products such as micro-tab, lozenges or gum.

inhaler

Inhalator is a plastic tube shaped like a cigarette holder into which a nicotine cartridge is fitted. As you suck on the inhalator, nicotine is absorbed through your mouth and throat. This can be good for people who miss the action of smoking.

nasal_spray

Nasal spray

Nasal Spray is the strongest form of NRT and allows the nicotine to be sprayed Into your nose, where it is absorbed into your body.

zyban
